What to Do - East Tennessee History

Historic sites and museums provide a fascinating look back into East Tennessee history, as well as American history and architecture. Such jewels in Tennessee history that can be found throughout the eastern region are Civil War sites; the homes and grave of Andrew Johnson, the 17th president of the U.S.; and several sites on the Cherokee Trail of Tears. Other sites full of Tennessee history include numerous old buildings and courthouses, such as the courthouse where the infamous Scopes Trial was held. The past is waiting to be explored as East Tennessee history provides a gateway into the mid to later 19th century.
