Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies is a 1.4-million-gallon aquarium located on the outskirts of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Gatlinburg, Tennessee-based Ripley's Aquarium invites visitors to discover an exciting underwater world filled with 8,000 sea creatures. Visitors may see everything from piranhas to 11-foot sharks at such exhibits as the Tropical Rain Forest, the Coral Reef and the Gallery of the Seas. At the Ripley’s Aquarium Discovery Center and the Touch-A-Ray Bay, children and adults alike may actually touch such creatures as a horseshoe crab or a ray. While visiting the Shark Lagoon, visitors may pass through what Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies claims is "the world's longest aquarium tunnel." Ripley's Aquarium also offers dive shows, presentations and a variety of educational programs, with special birthday celebrations on weekends. Refreshments are available at the Veranda Restaurant and at the Feeding Frenzy. The Cargo Hold — the gift shop at Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies — sells souvenirs.
